Rewilding Scotland's Epics: The Columba Cycle
SISF 2026
(Sun 25 Oct: 12:30pm & 2pm)
Rewilding Scotland’s Epics restores the natural power and connection of our oldest storytelling cycles through live contemporary retellings. The Columba Cycle moves between Ireland and Scotland, Erin and Alba, connecting sea and land, exile and discovery, in spiritual and emotional pathways.
Part One begins with Columba or Colmcille’s wondrous birth through tragic conflict to exile, and the voyage to Iona and Scotland. Inspiration and struggle combine. Part Two goes with Columba’s restless journeys from Iona including through the Great Glen, to Skye, and one unexpected return to Ireland. Then comes the final voyage into mystery and light. With Marion Kenny, Donald Smith and Heather Yule.

This year’s Festival explores the rich relationship between storytelling and the natural world through our theme Bird and Beast. Alongside a vibrant programme at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, storytellers across Scotland bring these tales to life this autumn through the Go Local programme. We proudly celebrate Scotland’s cèilidh tradition with an invitation into the story circle, extending a warm welcome to international guests who share their stories, traditions and contemporary practices alongside Scotland’s own world-class talent. Join us for some unforgettable tales and moments that bring us closer to nature, as we follow the trail of footprints and feathers and let our imagination take flight.
